DREAM DATE

by TOSHIYA KAMEI

The cloudless, radiant sky shines overhead. Fruits and vegetables overflow the rooftop gardens. I crawl into a cab. We fly through an invisible passage between towering buildings.

As I reach my desk, Zebira, my cubicle mate, looks up.

“Antonia,” she says breezily. “How was your weekend?” She tosses her hair to one side for no apparent reason. Her clean, soapy scent tickles my nostrils.

“Not bad,” I answer, blushing. “Yours?”

“Not bad,” she says before going back to her task.

Weeks ago, she told me there were no males on her home planet.

“Zebira, wanna grab a bite after work?”
